About This Role:

We are looking for a highly motivated hands-on part-time Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting operations - ensuring our books are accurate, compliant, and closed on time each month. This role will work closely with the Director of Finance and cross-functional teams to support invoicing, AR/AP, payroll, reporting, and other administrative processes.

If you thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, have strong attention to detail, and love making order out of chaos, this is a great opportunity to help build the foundation of our finance team. You’ll have ownership of the month-end close process, with oversight and support from the Director of Finance.

This is a remote contract role (approx. 16-20 hours per week), ideal for an accountant or bookkeeper who enjoys flexible hours and wants to work with a fast-growing SaaS startup.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

Accounting Operations

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping including journal entries, bank/credit card reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules.

  • Own the month-end close process - prepare and post accruals, prepaids, and deferred revenue entries, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

  • Assist with revenue recognition and deferred revenue schedules, including ARR tracking for SaaS contracts.

  • Maintain the general ledger in compliance with US GAAP.

  • Support preparation of documentation for reporting and tax filings.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Manage invoicing, collections, and payments, ensuring timely follow-ups and accurate records.

  • Review vendor bills, employee reimbursements, and corporate card expenses (Ramp, Brex, or similar).

  • Ensure proper coding and approval workflows in the accounting system.

Payroll & Compliance

  • Administer payroll and 1099 filings with HR tools (Gusto, Deel).

  • Coordinate with HR/Finance for new hires, terminations, and state registration compliance.

  • Support sales tax compliance, including maintaining records and reconciling filings.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for internal reporting and board materials.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate month-end close and strengthen controls.

  • Support ad hoc finance projects including system integrations, spend analysis, and audit readiness.

  • Assist in evaluating and implementing a new AI-native invoicing or ERP system.

About You:

  • CPA program completed or in progress.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a SaaS or high-growth startup environment.

  • Solid understanding of US GAAP, accrual accounting, and month-end close processes.

  • Experience with Xero, Stripe, Gusto, Deel, Ramp, or similar systems.

  • Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills (reconciliations, lookups, pivot tables).

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in solving problems.

  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally with non-finance teams.

  • Bonus points for:

    • Familiarity with SaaS metrics and subscription billing models.

    • Experience supporting financial due diligence or external audits.

    • Comfort with or curiosity about AI-native accounting tools.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • A culture of customer obsession and curiosity

  • Opportunity to shape and scale a critical business function

  • Remote-first culture with high trust and high autonomy

  • Annual team retreats and virtual events

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI integrations that matter

  • Competitive compensation & equity

  • Generous PTO, health benefits, and learning stipend
